Haricot verts are the more refined version of green beans; they are thinner, longer and straighter and more refined in taste. Maxibel will keep you stocked with fresh beans; frequently pick for optimal yields. Delicious when steamed or boiled, it can be preserved by canning or freezing. A vigorous plant that produces pencil thin, long, stringless tender pods with brown speckled seeds. Haricot verts get limp much faster than green beans because they are harvested younger; so eat them as fresh as possible. Haricot verts only need 6 minutes.
Sow these bush beans every two weeks for a continuous harvest or follow bush beans with longer-maturing pole beans.
Sow beans in spring after the soil has warmed to at least 60°F - about two weeks after the last frost. Bean seeds will rot in cold, wet soil, and frost will kill seedlings; there is little advantage to putting beans in the garden until the weather has warmed.
