INTRODUCTION

Three years ago we decided to turn our front lawn into a potager garden, which included both vegetables and flowers.

"A potager is simply a vegetable plot which follows principles of garden design to create an area which is not only ornamental, but productive too." - Growveg.com

We have been very happy with it and have never regretted the decision. But this year, I have decided to use the sage advise of an online gardener that I admire, Huw Richards. He has very practical gardening videos on YouTube

This year I received his book, Veg In One Bed, How to Grow an Abundance ofGood on one Raised bed, Month by Month for Christmas. His beds are 4 foot by 10 foot and mine are 2 foot by 6 foot, so I will have to modify the plan in his book a bit.  He is also in Wales, which is a slightly different climate than my Maryland home.

I will modify some of the crops he uses by swapping out some such as lima beans for fava or broad beans. A garden isn't a garden without some crops, in my opinion, such as tomatoes and peppers which he doesn't include in his master plan (although he does mention them in the last chapter).

I hope you will enjoy following us along as we go on our gardening journey this year.
