Seeds for 2024 Garden: Survival Home Garden

For next year's garden, I have already bought Survival Seed's Home Garden Seed Collection includes a selection of 30 non-GMO heirloom varieties of gardening seeds.

Arugula

Deliciously spicy bitter green adds zest to salads. Arugula is a nutritional powerhouse and is an extremely healthy addition to your home garden. This cruciferous green leafy vegetable does well in cool weather. Enjoy year-round fresh flavor by growing indoors in hotter seasons. Easy to grow. Sow in garden. Sow seed at a depth approximately three times the diameter of the seed. Best planted at soil temperatures between 50°F and 77°F.

Large Leaf Basil 
Large Leaf Basil has excellent flavor and a strong herbal fragrance, making it an ideal choice for using in pesto, Italian foods, and other dishes requiring an abundance of basil flavor. Large Leaf Basil lives up to its name with 3-4" leaves. Each plant grows a profusion of these leaves and can be grown indoors or outdoors. This sweet basil variety is slow to bolt, giving you a longer growing season.
  • Grow in seed trays, and plant out in 4-6 weeks. Sow seed at a depth approximately three times the diameter of the seed. Best planted at soil temperatures between 64°F and 95°F.

Cylindra Red Beet
They're edible and delicious from the root to the top, and can even be used for sprouting as microgreens. You'll love this reliable beetroot. Delicious from Leaf to Root - This ruby red heirloom from Denmark has leaves that can be cooked as greens, and the beetroot stays tender. Compact Growth - Cylindra beet grows long, cylindrical roots and can save gardeners a lot of space for other vegetables

        Sow directly into deep, fertile, soil a week before the last expected frost. If necessary, start inside or in a cold frame 5-6 weeks earlier, but take care not to disturb the tap root during the transplant.               
        


Waltham 29 Broccoli

Waltham 29 Broccoli is a blue-green broccoli known for its exceptional taste and High Yields. Its 4-8 inch heads have long stalks and medium to large beads. Golden Acres Cabbage

Golden Acre White Cabbage has 5-7 inch compact heads that take up very little space in your garden and can withstand cooler temperatures. This makes it a perfect choice for the home gardener to plant outdoors in late winter to grow produce for an early harvest in late spring. Firm, light green, compact heads have sweet leaves that are excellent in a variety of culinary uses, from slaws to stews. These healthy cruciferous vegetables are delicious cooked or eaten raw in salads and cole slaws.   • Sow cabbage seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost date, keeping growing medium at 75 degrees F. until seeds germinate. 
  • 2-4 weeks before last frost date, transplant outside 18-24 inches apart. Cabbage thrives in cooler weather and may suffer from sun damage in hot temperatures.
  • Harvest in 11-15 weeks.

Little Finger Carrot

Survival Garden Seeds Little Finger Carrot is the ideal baby carrot to grow in your garden. These little carrots are big on flavor, and were bred specifically for canning. Imperator 58 Carrot

Cilantro

Cilantro is a perfect herb seed for your garden. Performs best in cooler weather, as hot weather can cause it to become feathery and tasteless. National Pickling Cucumber

Start cucumber seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before planting outdoors after all danger of frost has passed. For best germination, keep seeds evenly moist, not soggy, but do not allow to dry completely. Dill

Black Beauty Eggplant

Black Beauty Eggplant is a bell shaped eggplant that gardeners love! Plant these beauties in your garden for delicious flavor for your stir fries and baba ghanoush. Black Beauty eggplant is an extremely popular heirloom variety with a classic bell shape and shiny deep purple, almost black skin. Black Beauty is renowned as an excellent and reliable producer. Harvest when fruit is glossy for mild flavor and tender texture.

Sow eggplant seeds indoors 8-12 weeks before last frost. Harden off plants and transplant outdoors, spacing plants 24 - 30 inches apart as soon as daytime temperatures reach 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Water consistently through growing season.

Lacinato Kale

Lacinato Kale, a.k.a. Tuscan Kale or Dinosaur Kale, is a kid's favorite kale. That's great, because kale is a nutritional superfood. They'll love growing this kale in your home vegetable garden and eventually eating it, too! Lacinato is a favorite kale with bluish green leaves that have a bumpy texture. The tender leaves are great as kale chips or make a great addition to soups and salad. Lacinato kale is a fantastic green for winter months, because the frost makes the nutritious leaves even more tender and sweet.

Sow indoors 4-6 weeks early inside or sow directly outdoors. Space plants 12-18 inches apart in a sunny spot with rich, well-drained soil. Harvest outside leaves, leaving the middle for a continuous harvest.

Lolla Rosa lettuce grows rich magenta and green leaves in loose heads with curly leaves. It has a mild flavor, fantastic for salads and sandwiches. Lolla Rosa lettuce is hardy in cool weather and can be continually harvested and regrown for year round flavor.
  • Easy to grow. Sow in garden, or start in seed trays and plant out in 4-6 weeks.. Sow seed at a depth approximately three times the diameter of the seed. Best planted at soil temperatures between 46°F and 81°F.

Paris Island Lettuce
Parris Island Lettuce is a Romaine style lettuce, growing upright in large heads that can reach an impressive 12" in height and 8-10" around. Heat resistant and slow to bolt, Parris Island lettuce retains its sweet flavor. A romaine style lettuce with crisp, green leaves that can grow 8-9" tall. Parris Island is slow to bolt, with a long growing season. Can even be grown in summer if given shade and ample water. Use Parris Island for delicious salads and adding crunch to your sandwiches. Parris Island boasts a more robust nutritional profile than many other lettuces, too.

Hearts of Gold Melon
Hearts of Gold Melon or Cantaloupe are super sweet, delicious melons that will make any gardener proud. Plant these in your home vegetable garden for their succulent fresh flavor. Hearts of Gold cantaloupes grow to be 2-3 pounds. They have an extremely sweet smell and flavor, making them delicious for eating. The netting on these melons becomes more exaggerated as it approaches perfect ripeness under the heat out of the summer sun. Flat Leaf Parsley

Jalapeno Pepper

Butternut Winter Squash
